Transformation in Christ Does Not Allow for Transition in Gender: God Doesn’t Make Mistakes
Since 2009, March 31 has been known globally as Transgender Day of Visibility. The goal of this day is to raise awareness about transgender people and their contributions, while simultaneously bringing attention to the way the LGBTQ+ community has been mistreated.
Unfortunately, this international day just so happened to fall smack dab on Resurrection Sunday 2024, arguably the most important Christian holiday. The president of the United States, Joe Biden, made an official statement proclaiming March 31, 2024 as Transgender Day of Visibility.
“NOW, THEREFORE, I, JOSEPH R. BIDEN JR., President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim March 31, 2024, as Transgender Day of Visibility. I call upon all Americans to join us in lifting up the lives and voices of transgender people throughout our Nation and to work toward eliminating violence and discrimination based on gender identity.”
To conclude this proclamation, the POTUS goes on to say, “IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand this twenty-ninth day of March, in the year of our Lord two thousand twenty-four, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and forty-eighth.” To summarize, he says that he proclaims this international observance of transgender visibility in the year of our Lord. Did you catch that? The year of our Lord. The POTUS is seemingly honoring the Lord, yet contradicting Biblical Truth.
The sad reality is that there is a developmental crisis called rapid onset gender dysphoria that is playing a huge role in the decision for those who want to switch genders. Rapid onset gender dysphoria occurs when someone decides they want to change genders after years of identifying with their biological sex, which most of the time also includes altering their physical appearance in irreversible ways. In the podcast, Relatable, Daisy Strongin, a former transgender, says, “When you hate yourself and you want to be just anyone else and you want to change yourself in this insanely radical way that almost seems impossible . . . it gives you this almost high of being like I have control of the world — like I have control of how other people see me in a way that I didn’t think was possible.” There are 1.6 million people in the U.S. who have felt the need to switch genders in order to experience a sense of self-satisfaction and confidence. They have experienced such a strong feeling of a lack of belonging within their biological sex that they don’t want to be themselves anymore. I created a poll on my Instagram story and asked the question, “Transgender Day of Visibility or Easter?” 98% of people voted Easter, while the remaining 2% voted TDOV.
The transition of genders is celebrated and even worshiped all across the world. I have empathy for those who have felt these strong feelings of self-loathing. I think we can all relate to feeling inadequate in one way, shape, or form. It isn’t a fun place to be. According to Medical News Today, transgender individuals are four times as likely as cisgender individuals (those who identify with their biological sex) to experience a mental health condition. Thirty-nine percent of the respondents reported that they experience serious psychological distress in comparison to 5% of the general U.S. population. A whopping 40% of the respondents also said that they have attempted suicide in their lifetime (Medical News Today).
Topics like this that celebrate sin make it even more important for Christians to make wise decisions that honor God instead of the everchanging, broken world. The Truth can be found in God’s divinely inspired Word– the Bible. Psalms 18:30 says, “God’s way is perfect. All the LORD’s promises prove true. He is a shield for all who look to him for protection.” The Truth is that God did not make mistakes in the way that He created His people. The God of the universe has never and will never make a mistake. Genesis 1:27 says, “So God created human beings in his own image. In the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.”
God highlights His design for marriage in Genesis 2:24. It says, “This explains why a man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one.” Christians are called to honor and value marriage between a man and a woman. Celebrating transgenderism goes against God’s perfect design for humanity.
Stevi, a twenty-something wife, has a blog all about the beauty of marriage. In her blog, she explains the challenges and excitements of young marriage and she highlights staying connected to your spouse in the way God created, as man and woman. Michaela, also a young wife, has a blog about both marriage and family. She talks about the enjoyment that comes from living a simple life the way that God intended.
In conclusion, Christians must make bold decisions that honor Christ, not sin. As parents, we are called to direct our children onto the right path and flee from the agendas of the world. (Proverbs 22:6) Biden’s decision to “transition” this Resurrection Sunday into a day that celebrates brokenness has not sat well with Christians across the nation. Less than half of 1 percent of Americans consider themselves transgender and yet our President found this necessary. While we must obey the law of the land, we are ultimately committed to the Lord. Christians must make decisions to honor our unchanging God instead of the ever-changing world. Daisy, the former transgender mentioned above, made a statement saying, “I’m a woman, but it’s not an identity. It’s just what I am.” By the grace of God, Daisy is now experiencing the fullness of life, including motherhood. How do you stand up for the celebration of sin across the world?
